Mourinho’s Chelsea Trudges On

In a typical Jose Mourinho style, Chelsea put in a solid but uninspiring performance to leave the Turk Telekom Arena venue of its champion’s league match against Galatasaray with a point February 26. Early pressure by Chelsea was rewarded with a ninth-minute goal by Fernando Torres, despite Galatasaray controlling the game for a larger part.

Galatasaray, however, fought back and equalized through Aurelien Chedjou 64 minutes into the game. Chedjou’s strike came via a set piece, which was not properly marked by John Terry, Chelsea’s captain, with Petr Cech, the keeper, also indecisive.

“The first half was our game, we had chances to kill the game. I’m not critical of my striker because he had a good game. But overall when we went to counterattack situations we were missing the last pass, the last control, the last choice,” Mourinho explained after the match.

Chelsea now only need to score a goal or at least prevent Galatasaray from scoring in the return leg at Stamford Bridge next month to move into the Champions League quarter-finals.
