MainOne Inaugurates New Data Centre

MainOne, telecoms service and network solutions provider, is expanding its new Data Centre that spreads over 3,500 square meters in Lekki-Ajah, Lagos. The $240 million facility has 600-rack capacity with a direct access to MainOne’s metro and international fibre across the world.

Jumoke Akande, head, product marketing of the company, explained that the facility is equipped with all critical and security check equipment with no single point of failure. According to her, the facility has about 2.5 KW cooling capacity with Very Early Smoke Detection Alarm, VESDA, and FM 200 fire suppression. “There are multiple levels of physical security and biometric access controls with all day manned security personnel that are complimented with armed police on each shift. It has biometric access to all colocation areas with air-lock doors to prevent unauthorised access,” she noted.

Unlike the existing facility, which hosts only five financial institutions, the new data bank is expected to host hundreds of financial institutions, universities and conglomerates among others. In case of downtime, which hardly comes, Akande says, “we refund our clients for that period.”

MainOne has laid terrestrial metro fibre network build-out across Lagos and across major cities in West Africa to link the rest of world in order to improve network efficiency, reliability and scalability of its existing and potential clients.
