FG Strategises To Revitalise Industries

Okechukwu Enelamah, minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, earnestly desires to revitalise ailing industries in the country. The ministry, under his watch, has thus evolved strategies to promote the patronage of made-in-Nigeria goods and services in order to attract both local and foreign investments.
Enelamah outlined the strategies at the management retreat for the ministry and its parastatals in Makurdi, Benue State at the weekend. He said the retreat was significant in view of the great expectation of Nigerians for a rapid turn around of the nation’s economy. “This retreat will help create a conducive platform for the top management of the ministry and its parastatals to brainstorm and discuss the newly launched Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) and evolve strategies for achieving industrial targets in the plan document,” Enelamah said.
According to him, the United Nations Development Organisation, UNIDO, had provided requisite technical support within the framework of the country programme for 2012-2016, which has been extended to June 2017. He said as a follow up, a new programme is being put in place for the period of 2017-2021.
Enalemah said the committee is working on poverty reduction through productive activities, trade capacity building, energy and environment. “I am optimistic that the retreat will generate ideas with desired outcomes and implementable strategies,” he said.
