Staff of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, have been commended for scoring an unprecedented 93.3 per cent during the just concluded Aviation Security Audit, says a release by Yakubu Dati, general manager, communications department, FAAN. According to him, men of the Aviation Security department were specially commended for exhibiting high sense of professionalism and discipline in spite of the present challenges faced as they carry out their duties.
Saleh Dunoma, managing director of FAAN, stated this during an interaction with Airport Operators in Lagos. According to him, The Airport Council International, ACI, came on his invitation in line with the Authority’s mandate for a safe and secured airport environment. The Airport Excellence, APEX, in safety audit on the Standards and Safety of Airport facilities was conducted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The two-week audit, which involved inspection of both day and night operations, was done to ensure that these airports maintain its standards according to world’s best practices. Some of the areas reviewed include the Physical Characteristics of the airport, Visual aids, Aerodrome Manual, Safety Management System, Airport Operations, Runway Management, Airlighting amongst others.
