Cristiano Ronaldo Wins the World Footballer of the Year Award for the Second Time

Real Madrid Star Cristiano Ronaldo has won the 2013 Fifa Ballon d’Or, for the second time in his career, beating Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Franck Ribery of Bayern Munich. He was considered the most outstanding footballer in the world in 2013 even though he did not win any significant trophy with either club or country. He, however, scored a total of 69 goals in 59 games for club and country in 2013, a feat that swayed the votes in his favour.

Ronaldo first won the award in 2008 when he was with Manchester United, since then, he has always come second best to Messi in the last four editions, including all the three awards after Fifa took it over. Despite the fact that Ribery played a key role in Bayern Munich’s treble winning exploits in 2013, he only came third best.
