Attahiru Jega, Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Puts His Men On Red Alert

With preparations for the 2015 elections afoot in many parts of the country, following the announcement of the dates of the elections, Attahiru Jega, professor and chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, saw the need to get his men ready for the task ahead. He, therefore, brought his staff and resident electoral commissioners together in Kaduna to charge them on the modalities for conducting the elections. He urged them to be more committed and vigilant towards the success of the elections.

“All eyes are on us – our friends, partners, concerned citizens and indeed even our adversaries. We must be more vigilant, be more committed and strengthen our harmony at all levels to achieve the desired results,”

Jega told his men at the four-day retreated that has just ended.

Jega said the implementation of the programmes and plans leading to the 2015 general election, required that the capacity of staff of the commission are vastly improved. The key objectives of the retreat were to review, discuss and decide on the major policies and programmes leading to the 2015 general election, share with the resident commissioners, directors and directing staff decisions taken by the commission on major policies and programmes and use the opportunity (of the retreat) to share experiences and lessons from previous elections on how to keep on improving the electoral process.
