The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has sensitised its workers and other stakeholders operating at the Domestic terminal 1 of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, MMA, Lagos, on the rudiments of fire prevention and safety using a fire simulation and prevention technique.

Dorothy Egwu, terminal’s fire officer, explained that the exercise was also designed to ensure that fire safety standards are regularly maintained within the terminal. She emphasised that fire safety was based on the principle of separating the fuel sources and ignition sources always. While demonstrating how to use the fire extinguisher, Egwu charged all participants to remember Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the top handle and Sweep from side to side until the fire is completely out, PASS, an acronym she said would guide the workers to remember the fastest steps to extinguish fire. “In the event of a fire, people should leave the building through the nearest exit and assist any person in immediate danger to safety without risking their own lives, she added.
